Jack Karowak – “Medicine” [Music Video]

By: Shamus Hill

Treehouse Audio was one of the most potent releases to come out of Massachusetts in several years, with Jack Karowak and company working tirelessly in order to push out the well-hammered album. “Medicine” ended up being one of the first tracks off of the project to really resonate with me, so I was thrilled to find out that it was next in-line for a visual treatment. Recruiting Xandros to help bring his vision to life, the pair hit it out-of-the-park with this one.

The meaning of “Medicine” lies within the realization that we all need to settle down a bit in order to set our minds straight. Jack paints scenes of rushing towards our goals to the point where we lose sight of what we’ve been working towards to begin with. Once we sit-back and take a moment to maintain our perception of things, we can then move correctly. A beautiful song that’s accompanied by an equally beautiful video, “Medicine” is certainly a highlight within Jack Karowak’s discography.

Donald Grunge – “CowboyTalk”

By: Seamus Fay

From “Guitar Grunge” back in July to “Snake In My Boot” last month and most recently, “Henny Sippa“, 2018 has been a monumental year for Donald Grunge. One release after another, he’s been honing in on his craft, and as a result, we’ve seen some of his most creatively ambitious releases to date in recent months. Needless to say, Grunge is on a win streak right now, and today, he takes all of this energy and puts it toward the release of his long-awaited, highly-anticipated new project, CowboyTalk.

Taking on a Western theme, this tape is eccentric from the cover art all the way to the final seconds of its last song. Grunge pours his heart out into 7 highly-passionate, energetic cuts, leaving it all on the court as he puts forth a noticeably refined version of the “on my own terms” artistry that we’ve grown to love over the years. With production at the hands of local talents including Mike Hector, David Walker, JORD4NEVERDIED, Chris Tophr, Jonny Doobs, Maka, and Humbeats, CowboyTalk picked on a dream team of names to make up its roster, and without a doubt, it paid off. Donald Grunge is here, and he’s here to stay.

Pistola – “5th N’ Heaven”

By: Seamus Fay

Pistola has had fans on the edges of their seats awaiting new music in the past few months, and in order to hold us all over until the release of his forthcoming mixtape, the Boston talent is here to bless us with a new track, “5th N’ Heaven”. Taking into account the unstoppable momentum that Stola has garnered recently, this song arrives at just the right time, giving fans yet another undeniable banger to rage to. Also featuring production from David Walker, “5th N’ Heaven” acts as a testament to the producer-artist chemistry that the two have grown in all of their collaborations – an inimitable relationship grown through pure authenticity.

That being said, what struck me hardest when first listening to this song was the way the melodies come in with such burgeoning force. Each kick of the drum is a chilling, powerful display of the full court press that Stola is running, and one line after another, this song marks itself as the audio version of the most intense mosh pit you’ve ever experienced. Crafting bangers seems like an effortless task for this rising star – especially when paired with David Walker – and “5th N’ Heaven” only adds to this legendary run of heat that Pistola is on right now. Oh, and remember, this song isn’t even on the tape. I think that tells you something about how incredible this project is about to be.

FABZ Above – “Weight…Wait” & “Grace”

By: Seamus Fay

If there’s one artist that has been thriving and improving with every successive release as of late, it’s none other than FABZ Above. His unstoppable, thunderous style and unwavering charisma have provided for a number of standout bangers in the past, and today, Fabz adds to the list with two brand new tracks titled “Weight…Wait” and “Grace”. Both produced by frequent collaborator David Walker, these are the perfect releases to continue Fabz’ path towards the top, so don’t miss out as we delve further into each one.

Garnering energy is what we have come to know and love FABZ Above for in the past. He provides excitement without ever getting overly ambitious, and in this way, has nearly mastered the skill of being a natural entertainer. Match the showcases of these innate talents, and you end up with two songs that any fan of rap can find something they enjoy in – not to mention the fact that Walker and Fabz hold a certain artist-producer chemistry that very few others can obtain to such an emphatic extent.

Jack Karowak – “Form” [Prod. David Walker]

By: Seamus Fay

In my time covering Massachusetts’ budding music scene, I have stumbled across the name Jack Karowak a few times, but admittedly, I never really took the time to go through everything he has put out as of yet. However, with the release of his latest single, “Form”, I truly recognize what I was sleeping on. Not only is this young artist an absolute force vocally, but his stellar choice of production complements his natural talent wonderfully, subsequently making for some standout singles that I am just now getting hip to.

Produced by none other than David Walker, Karowak’s latest takes fans deep into his world with an introspective instrumental and reflective verses, offering his ambitions and his life with a genuine touch of personality. Acting as the cherry on top, the guitar and bass, courtesy of Brad Feeney and Pat Fey (respectively), bring this one to the next level, molding everything together and meshing with Karowak’s vocals seamlessly. Having said that, don’t make the mistake that I made – check out “Form” below and get hip to Jack Karowak as soon as possible – he’s onto something special.

FabzAbove – “Above” ft. Patrick Michel [Prod. David Walker]

By: Seamus Fay

When scrolling through my Twitter feed yesterday, I stumbled upon a new collaboration between two of our local scene’s most promising artists in FABZABOVE and Patrick Michel. Not only did these two working together come as a pleasant surprise, but the song also features production from David Walker – a mastermind behind the boards that has consistently blessed us with hit after hit. Conjoining the powers of all three of these heavy hitters, they’re back on our pages today with a hard-hitting new track titled “Above”.

The main element of this offering that drew me in was the unapologetically raw charisma and deeply-cut kicks, meshing together to form a hard-hitting environment to set the stage pefectly for both Fabz and Michel to float over. The energy of “Above” will undoubtedly transalte into a spectacle at live shows, and I can only envision the mosh pits happening to this one in the near future. Needless to say, FABZABOVE, Patrick Michel, and David Walker have a banger on their hands so be sure to show some love and click play below.
