Maka – “Kool” [Prod. Maka]

By: Shamus Hill

If there’s anyone coming correct this Spring, it’s the man himself, Maka. Following the release of “Look At U” featuring iWearDadJeans, Maka has unleashed yet another majestic record that will help you shake off that last bit of winter and transcend into the warmer months with ease.

“Kool” is an energetic, lively offering which will get you off your feet and dancing no matter where you’re at. The self-produced song samples Kool & The Gang’s hit record “Get Down On It”, which assists Maka in obtaining the joyous feeling from beginning to end.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Maka somehow found the perfect equation for making music that’s meant to be played on gorgeous, sunny days, and throughout his catalog, he has proven to master this sound to an emphatic extent. With this aspect on lock, it’s also worth mentioning that Maka’s discography basically became the soundtrack for my recent trip to San Juan, helping make a wonderful time that much better. It’s like you can almost feel the endorphins rushing towards your brain every time Maka whips up a new masterpiece, and “Kool” is no different.

Continuing a noteworthy 2018 with the release of “Kool”, Maka makes another tremendous stride towards cementing his spot amongst Boston’s current best artists. Stream the vibrant track below:

Millyz – “No Time 4 U” ft. Nino Man [Music Video]

By: Seamus Fay

Led by his inimitable charisma and ruthless lyricism, Millyz has established as one of Boston’s most exciting artists to watch. Even so, ever since we first started covering him here on Graduation Music, I must say that Millyz has only improved and polished his artistry since then. His relentless work ethic has continued to watch the stocks rise, and today, the rising star is back on our pages to continue this trend with his @jfilmshd-directed visuals for “No Time 4 U”.

Ever since I first heard the song, “No Time 4 U” has been one of my favorite releases from the Cambridge native, as it so vividly details his hustles toward the top as well as the road that it took to get here. Among other things, this track also reminds us that Millyz is truly rapping his ass off every time he touches the mic – a skill that no matter how many times we hear it, should never be underappreciated. Complementing this sound, the chilling visual companion for the song takes fans through a day in the life for Millyz and Nino Man, watching them conduct business and hit the studio without any distractions.

Be sure to watch the music video for “No Time 4 U” below and additionally, peep the tracklist and artwork for Millyz forthcoming mixtape, Blanco, below that!

Maka ft. iWearDadJeans – “Look At U”

By: Shamus Hill

It’s officially Spring, and what better way to bring in the new season than with some new waves from Maka. Today, the Boston native – or should I say hitmaker? – is here to gift the world with a new single titled “Look At U” featuring a guest appearance from iWearDadJeans on guitar and vocals. And as you may have expected, this power duo has successfully delivered an addictive offering that will undoubtedly help to instill the beauty of Spring into us all.

That being said, I honestly can’t rave enough about Maka’s music. Time and time again, he delivers exceptional pieces of work, and the energy that comes with these masterpieces is, in many ways, unmatched. If you’re someone who believes in the statement, “music is about feeling”, then look no further than this man right here. Taking inspiration from musical elements in genres across the world, it’s extremely fun diving on into a Maka record for the first time, as you truly have to be prepared for anything coming your way. One thing remains constant, though: Maka will bring the vibe with him no matter what beat or style he decides to bless.

Maka – “24 Hours”

By: Shamus Hill

Following his recent rap debut, Boston artist Maka just dropped off a new single by the name of “24 Hours”, offering feels that are very much reminiscent of his collaborative EP with Durkin, “Another Island”. With this track, the rapidly-rising talent definitely gives us a tropical-filled sound to move against the winter months – working together to create a noteworthy contrast that brings the song together. I can’t count how many times I’ve been having a long, dreary day, and have listened to Maka’s catalog of music to uplift me from however it is I may be feeling, and this trend is closely followed with “24 Hours”. Maka has the wonderful ability to make it feel like every day can be an incredible one, which is something that significantly strengthens the impact of his music.

“24 Hours” touches upon Maka’s day-to-day struggles, shedding light on the way he is able to rise above them and meet his personal standards. It’s definitely a hopeful release, and by keeping it positive and denying the negativity, “24 Hours” is undoubtedly a listen that everyone can resonate with and relate to. Maka is aware of the influences around him trying to deter him from his goals, and in light of his ambitions, he’s dedicated to his creative vision and believes in himself to the highest extent.

In essence, this is one of the main reasons that I’ve grown to love Maka’s music. He showcases the fact that shit will happen regardless of what you can do, and a person’s true character is shown by how they perceive these troubles and choose to go about their life despite them. If you dedicate your time and energy working towards something, just grind it out and tone out the BS around you. It’s one thing for a song to sound amazing, but for the message behind it to be of equal caliber is something of great importance in itself.

Maka definitely blessed us with some more magic on this track, so let’s show Cambridge’s-own some support. Listen to “24 Hours” below:
