Jiles – “Later” [Prod. LoLoTheGod]

By: Seamus Fay

Music that evokes a feeling in the listener is always the most engaging to listen to, and the finest opportunities to do just this within a song are through vocal cadences and production. Taking full advantage of both of these aspects, Graduation Music favorites Jiles and LoLoTheGod are here to bless us with a brand new single entitled “Later”, taking each of their respective talents and putting them in full force, one alongside the other.

Before we get into this one, however, I wanted to mention the fact that this is yet another collaborative offering from two Brockton artists. In my time covering Brockton’s music community, I have noticed an unrivaled level of collaboration, chemistry, and support coming from the city. Not only are the artists from the area talented and hardworking, but they also know how to boost one another up and join forces rather than compete for one spot. That being said, Jiles and LoLo put this on full display in “Later”, so let’s delve a bit further into it.

For starters, Jiles’ eccentric vocal style and melodic cadences on this one are what hold the listener and attach them to the track. Every bar is delivered in a way that catches the ear while propelling the song forward, and LoLo reinforces this with atmospheric, trunk-rattling production to match. Topping it all off and solidifying “Later” as a song that I will certainly be returning to in the near future, the lyricism on the offering is what sets Jiles aside from his peers. His brutally honest bars come across with a certain level of authenticity and connection to the listener, giving us all the more reason to run this one back, again and again, and in whole, reminding us why Brockton has next.
