The World Needs New Big Leano Music

By: Seamus Fay

With his sophomore tape Packula on the way, it’s sounding like Big Leano is about to return to the spotlight with his best project yet. And I fully believe the hype. In preparation for new music, here’s a breakdown of the year that Big Leano has had so far. To start off we have exhibit A: “The Store” by Cousin Stizz.

Not only was this one of my favorite verses on One Night Only, but it was one of my favorite feature verses of this entire year, period. The chemistry between Stizz and Leano is nothing less than brotherly, and when set up with the alley oop, it’s clear that Big Leano will never back down from the dunk. He comes through on this cut with an energy so infectious that I had no choice but to smile and enjoy every line on first listen (and second, and third, etc.), not to mention that lyrically, it’s a classic. The opening lines of “Get in ya bag and keep going/ I take the dice and I roll em” will probably be stuck in my head for the rest of my life, and saying I’m excited to see this song live on tour is an understatement.

The second verse we received from Big Leano this year was on “Still” with Vintage Lee, a single from the SuperSmashBroz project Family Cookout.

Personally, I was ecstatic when I found out the SmashBroz got these two on a track together. Each having their own charisma and easily-recognizable style, it made sense that Lee and Leano would work together flawlessly on a track. And the plays have proven this point many times over, raking in just under 30k on SoundCloud at the moment. The whole city of Boston (and beyond) has rallied behind this single, and with such loyal, growing fan bases for not only Leano but Lee as well, it only makes sense that we’re watching their individual stocks rise each and every day.

***Also notable is the line “My stash got a little stash, too, lil n***a”. Forever important.

In all, with only two verses released this year, the people are already fiending for new Big Leano music. I think all of Boston knows the impact that the young artist can have on the local scene, and in reality, Leano could be the next biggest thing out of Massachusetts. He’s just that talented.

Below are just a few of the reactions to the Big Leano tweet asking if fans are ready for Packula. It’s safe to say we’re in for something special.
